When I first had the idea to design a rug for Le Magazyn, I had two thoughts in mind- it would be simple and clear, and should incorporate geometrical lines and forms.
While searching for inspiration, I came across a concept that embodies exactly what I was looking for called Concrete Art. This is a movement with a strong emphasis on geometrical abstraction and includes the works of Brazilian artists such as Geraldo de Barros, Waldemar Cordeiro and Helio Oiticica. Using very simple lines, Concrete Art has a strong emphasis on geometrical forms and puts effort toward absolute clarity.
As I was raised in Brasilia, a modernist city designed by Oscar Niemeyer, and the strait lines throughout the city had a big influence on my aesthetics. It was a perfect alignment bringing these same straight lines and purism to our bespoke Concrete rug.
